I’m suddenly having troubles with my Photoshop CS2. I had uploaded the software onto my new laptop, Dell with Vista, and it has always worked fine. Suddenly, this message is popping up and I have no more use of Photoshop CS2:

Strangely, my ImageReady does work. I have uninstalled Photoshop several times and reinstalled it but I’m still getting this message.

Any reason as why this is happening, and what can I do to recover Photoshop?

Will I be able to buy an upgrade or will it always be unrecoverable? Then will I be able to buy the full version of CS4 or will any Photoshop I try and install always be unrecoverable?

Did you delete/ reset the prefs?

Point one: CS2 is not supported on Vista so if strange things happen don’t be surprised.

Point two: You can upgrade to CS4 without any problems. The installer either recognises an upgrade-eligible copy is installed or asks you to insert the CS2 disk or serial number.

You should check the spec of your laptop against the CS4 requirements. Some features may not work.

That is really odd, I started having this message just a few days ago myself. I am running Windows XP, not Vista. And like you, my Image ready is working fine.

I uninstalled and reinstalled on a different harddrive, hoping it might be a scratch disk problem, but it’s still not working.

Mylenium, you can’t get into the program to reset the preferences, it just simply won’t open after it displays that message, it’s very odd.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.

This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

I’ll try that right now. This only happens when you have a deadline, right?

Good luck! You have to be very quick-fingered with the Alt+Ctrl+Shift method.

Okay, I manually deleted it as per the instructions (wasn’t quick fingered enough for the other way) rebooted and am still getting the same error.

Searched the knowledge base, did everything they suggested and it’s still hosed…….
