Hi

In the past I’ve always done the following to add a jpeg to a layer

1. Created a new layer on the drawing
2. Opened the jpeg req in a separate window
3. Dragged the Jpeg into the drawing so that it sits on it’s own layer

THis worked in CS3 but doesn’t sem to in CS4. Is there a way to do this?

thanks

Ian

I don’t know, but why 1. Created a new layer on the drawing ? That part’s not necessary.

Have you tried Copy/Paste Did you trash/reset Preferences?

BTW, what is it doing? So you get a slashed out (forbidden) cursor?

Hi

Yep I forgot that it will automaticaly create a new layer.

So If I have psd1 which contains a blue backgound of the sea and I want to add a boat what I’ve done is open the boat.jpg as a separate tab. It is shown as background and is locked so I duplicated it (right click..) and tried edit.. copy but it’s all greyed out.So I’m unable to copy and then paste. In cs3 I used to move the top stage to the side and drag the jpeg of the boat accross (left mouse click anddrag) but the new tab system seems unable to move.

Sorry to be so dense it’s just difficult to describe

cheers

Copy won’t work unless there’s a selection.

So: Ctrl A (select all) – ctrl C (copy)

<switch image>

ctrl V (paste)

Besides that, all you have to do is drag the boat image into your other document. No duplicating/copying/pasting necessary.

Correct, although the OP indicates dragging is not working.

Using the Move tool to drag I hope?

Hi

thanks for that ctrl a, c and v worked. As to the dragging thats what I’ve always done in the past butin cs4 if I select a tab the other one is hidden so how can I drag between the tabs?

thanks

Just drag the tab off of the other one.

I am looking forward to the course because it’s done by Deke Mc… whoose dany attitude appeals to a nutter like me.

Thanks for all the help

or you can duplicate the layer in the layers palet and target the new file in the pop up.

If you choose Duplicate Layer from the flyout arrow or Menu you get a choice in the dialog of which Document the Layer gets duplicated to.

When I get a new piece of software I always click on everything to get an idea of what’s where. Photoshop always has many ways to do anything. Duplicate Layer appears in at least three different places, for instance.

I’m still clicking in CS4!

"When I get a new piece of software I always click on everything to get an idea of what’s where."

That’s the only thing that makes sense to me.

I just can’t fathom the personal character attribute that would deter a person from exploring the UI thoroughly, and trying stuff out.

Hi

yeah but when you have Dreamweaver, Firefox, Photoshop, Bridge etc etc

And you have to earn a living you have to prioritise 😉 in my case It was Dreamweaver as thats my core software.

Hi

I agree but my point was that for graphic designers Photoshop will be the priority in the learning curve for web designers (like myself) it’s fireworks and |Dreamweaver,

Only had the cs4 web premium for a few days 🙂 I do love the new photo resize tool, gonna save me hours and hours
