I’d like to create alternative versions of existing winamp skins which varying colors. What’s the most efficient way to import the pieces into Photoshop and adjust the colored portions only without selecting them with the lasso, etc. For example, the blues in the following screenshot:

Thanks,

convert to RGB, go to Select-Color Range and choose Cyans in the "Select" drop down menu. Go into quick mask mode and adjust the strength of the selection by adjusting levels and brushing in the bits that got left out. Then add a Hue/saturation adjustment layer using your cleaned up selection.

OK, this isn’t working. It’s a .bmp and I created a new layer and Selected Color Range and choose Cyans. I keep getting the following alert:

Warning: No pixels are more than 50% selected. The select edges will not be visible. I’ve tried both radio buttons (Selection and Image) as well as the options in the "Selection Preview" drop down.

Why is this? The bmp is here:

I’ve converted RGB pics to Lab mode in order to make adjustments on the grayscale without affecting color. The color info is in the a and b channels, while L is the grayscale component. That might be what you want.

That’s why I wrote to go into quick mask mode and adjust your selection, then you can make the blue areas 100% selected. Just follow the instructions and you’ll get what you want.

Back to post#2, if you create a new layer, that layer is selected in the process of creating it; therefore, there are no pixels for Photoshop to select. (Don’t create the new layer, or reselect your original layer.)
