Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the "standard" colour setting everyone uses in PS? Being that I’m in the UK, I’ve been advised to use "European PrePress Defaults", but I need to know if this is standard practice here? To be honest, I don’t really know a lot about profiles, working spaces etc, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, it’d be much appreciated!!

Thanks,

J

Julie,

Most color spaces are "destination driven". Meaning you choose a color space for your intended output. Most folks that print to Inkjets use Adobe sRGB 1998, but if you’re sending to a print service, you are usually a CMYK image (smaller gamut) and a color space appropriate for that printers equipment. So in my experience "form follows function" in that what "everyone" uses depends on where they will output the image to.

Having said that, your best bet is to visit Ian Lyons site on color management. Should take about 15 minutes to read and it’s not tough at all. You should be on your way in no time.

Julie,

The best (IMHO) CMYK colour space to choose as a general CMYK profile in Photoshop in the UK is Euroscale Coated V2
