Each time I startup my laptop (DELL M6300) I now get the following error message: Adobe Photo Downloader 4.0 component

AppName: apdproxy.exe AppVer: 4.5.0.20477 ModName: apdboot.dll ModVer: 4.5.0.20477 Offset: 0000e6e1

When I look at the message in detail the following information appears:

find and remove it from startup folder or the run reg keys where it’s loading from … or reinstall.

what os are you running?

I don’t know if it’s strictly necessary. what the heck does it do anyway. i really don’t like all these processes that feel they have to start up when my system does. seems like a very slippery slope to a poorly performing machine.

Thank you Dave for replying!

I am running Windows XP2 SP2 all updates.

I am running Photoshop Elements 6.0 and Photoshop CS3. Which one should I reinstall?

I agree with you Dave. I hate it when all of this stuff just HAS to start up when my computer is turned on. There isn’t much memory left for my other programs!

Cheers!

Which one should I reinstall?

good question. i didn’t realize you have both apps.

i’d uninstall both with the control panel.

then run adobe cs3 clean script (read all the instructions)

Using the new CS3Clean Script
< http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb 402767&sliceId=2>

then i’d install just cs3. if you HAVE to have elements as well, install that first, THEN install cs3. run adobe updater a couple times after each install to make sure you have the final up to date versions before continuing.

Hi,

That appears to be from PSE 6.0. I’m not familiar enough with that product to suggest a resolution, but the component is used to import files from mounted peripherals into the PSE catalog and the local hard drive. Bridge CS3 also uses Adobe Photo Downloader (APD) but version 4.0.0.11090, not 4.5.0.20477 that you have in the OP.

You might try asking over in the PSE forum for more help.

is pse6 later than ps3? if so, i’d amend my above post. install the NEWEST application last… so if elements 6 is newer (release date) than photoshop cs3 install that after you install photoshop.

and check with the pse forum as steve says if that doesn’t fix the problem.

<aside>
my opinion is you really shouldn’t need to install elements of you have a full version of photoshop installed. elements is mostly just a stripped down version of photoshop. i say leave it off. it’s just a crutch to you learning what you can do in photoshop.
