I forgot what the scoop was: sometimes psd’s created in apple can’t be saved directly. You have to r-click and save as .psd or so…? I am not sure. Does anyone know if this is what it was, and why again…?

There is no difference in saving in Photoshop no matter what platform you are on. Don’t know where you heard that.

Many Macintosh mice don’t even have a right click button BTW.

Perhaps you’re thinking of saving to a server?

There are situations where it’s more reliable to save a local copy of an image file, then in Finder drag that to the server in a separate operation. —

Tell me if you think this is stupid.

Most jobs in my area require Mac experience.

The college where I’m studying graphic design has magnificent G4’s – all the latest and fastest hardware. (Well, it was the latest til the G5 debuted about two weeks after our new lab opened <g>)

So we have the opportunity to get great Mac experience.

They set the mice up like PC mice.

Duuuhh!

Are there any other things you need to know about a Mac mouse? The instructor blew off my objection and only mentioned the ctrl + click thing

Without wanting to hurt your feelings, the G4 is not that magnificent. OK, the price might be on the magnificent side I’ll give you that. As for the G5 it is a normal box with an IBM chip and running Unix

So – want to tackle the question?

Why don’t you just buy a mouse for the Mac with buttons and plug it in? They can’t be that expensive.

They can’t be that expensive. <

I forgot this one, the one button mouse on our Mac was a complete PITA. We installed a three button optical mouse and it improved workflow significantly, Why Apple can’t just equip their systems with three button scrolling mice (meese, mouses mices?) is beyond us. The "control-click" option, well, you know. It is absolutely essential to right click in order to access all of PS7’s functions.

Eliska,

Really it makes no difference what you use/learn on. It’s purely a personal preference as I see it. Probably the greatest problem you’ll have is the companies/places/individuals that don’t know it doesn’t matter, and give you no latitude to change if you want to. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been told by people including tech-support types that they didn’t think me buying a 2-, 3- etc. button mouse was a good idea, because Macs use one button…

I’ve used Macs since 1989, and taught class on PC for the last couple of years… and the differences are moot. I’m still not really sure why Mac continues to ship exclusively a one button mouse, although the new oval one-button smoky optical is probably as sexy as a computer Mouse is ever going to get ;D.

Sure you can use key combinations to achieve the results, but it’s notable the Mac OS has supported multi-button all for as long as I’ve used them. I bought my first Rollerball 3-button Kensington 10 years ago. One of my Macs still has it’s original 1-button, however my main mouse of choice is currently a Genius 2-button Optical Rollerball… and as far as I’m aware all Apple graphic apps support multi-button use as well.
