Besides being slower and buggy like everyone has been saying, I seem to be having the following:

When in blending options, changes made to a project using several, but not all tools will not show up until I either drag/resize the window or use the right side scroll bar to move up and down in the image. Also, it seems that the small thumbnails that show to the left of each layer, showing what they are and what position they are in do not show up or only show up sporactically. Sometimes, I manage to get the layer thumbnails to show up, but mostly not. CS3 just worked, this is truely a buggy release. I hope they fix this soon. Anybody else seeing what I’m seeing?

I’m running:

Intel 6600 Quad processor, 3.25 gigs of system ram, Nvidia 8800 GTX Ultra 768 mg ram, Windows Vista 32bit SP1.

Sounds like a video card problem. Make sure you have the latest drivers.

Personally, I am beginning to think the GPU support in CS4 was a very big mistake.

Well, for the missing layer thumbnails, I looked around and was able to fix that in a setting, but still, there’s weirdness like when you hide or un-hide a layer either in the drop-down or clicking the eye, the layer never goes away or comes back UNTIL you resize the project window or zoom in. Another weird thing I’ve never come across in earlier versions is when I first open CS4, I can’t go to file…. then open like before. I have to go "open recent" and choose "clear recent" before I can get the option to just simply open a file to un-grey. I don’t know if this is a setting, but it’s very strange that I can’t just open a file from the get-go.

This is probably because you are saving to a network drive. Or have a network printer as default.

Is this meant to be an explanation or an excuse? CS3 had no problems with network drives or printers (that I found or knew of) so why has it become an issue with CS4? The fact is, what Richard has found is a bug, true and simple, and it shouldn’t happen!

You didn’t look in this forum then Basil!

I have a network printer (and it is my default printer) and a network drive. Both seemed work fine with CS3. Whether they work with CS4 remains to be seen! (I have yet to get PS/CS4 to work properly at all!)

I stand by what I said. It is a bug, whatever the reason for it. If it was present, in some form, before CS4, there is even less excuse for it!

From what is being reported here, CS4 evidently has more problems with network devices, than CS3.

The problem is that it’s nearly impossible to duplicate. I’ve never seen an issue with it myself, either.

I think it comes down to the configuration of the local network. Some never give a problem with files saved to a network drive or the use of a network printer.

To cover themselves against people claiming "Adobe lost my data", their advice is don’t do it or if there are problems, stop doing it.

I’m not connected to a network drive or printer. This is simply my home computer and an Epson 3800 which is connected via USB. Could be a bad install I suppose, although I didn’t get any errors. I downloaded using the upgrade option. I am still running CS3 as well, but I don’t think that should be a problem. I had freshly defragged the machine just a day before as well. Well at least one other person is seeing this issue as well, so I know I’m not the only one.
