Hey.

We got our copy of the CS4 Master Collection through to our campus last week and I set it installing on my PC.

Everything seems to be working fine (I’ve already done about 400mb of updates!) but Photoshop is COMPLETELY unusable and that is the main programme I use. Once it’s open I tried by creating a standard issue 800×600 canvas… after about 5 seconds it loaded it but if I try to drag a square with the marquee tool it takes ages, I’m talking 15 seconds.

The PC is a brand new one built on Vista Enterprise (32-bit), it’s got 4GB RAM (well, ~3.25 in a 32-bit environment) and an ATI Radeon HD3600 512MB Graphics Card. Everything is completely up to date and the graphics card has the latest Catalyst 8.11 control panel. I’ve tried playing with the performance settings but to no avail, i.e. turn off OpenGL support, play with the cache etc etc – nothing.

Can someone please help me with this as the whole office needs this to work (we’ve all got identical PC’s). Our Mac version ‘obviously’ works fine, damn PC… Help! 🙂

Regards

There are umpteen threads on this already. Please read them.

I’ve read a handful of threads and I’ve not found any definitive solutions. Plus, it’s quite hard navigating this extremely primitive forum.

That’s because there are no definitive solutions. The issues are being looked at and worked on.

One thing you can try is disabling the catalyst control…it’s completely unnecessary. If that doesn’t do it, then just stay tuned.

As for the forums, you obviously haven’t been around these parts very long…every effort to change them has brought nothing but problems and complaints.

As for me, I use a newsreader.

Yes.. there is no solution to this issue. It is recommened that you just use CS3 if you have it.

Some people have found that off brand anti-virus programs can cause massive slowdowns in Photoshop (including Kazpersky).
