What’s the best way to maximize this monitor for PS CS4, Bridge, and Lightroom? I’m particuarly interested in learning whether I can split the screen as if I were working with dual monitors and have the image on one side and the panels on the other. Thanks.

…. really? get another one. 2 monitors rocks.

never heard of that. so you want 2 12" monitors (yes, less, monitor size is measured diagonally, i don’t feel like doing the math! ;))

even if you get a small 17" as the second monitor you won’t be sorry. i have a lacie electron blue 22" as primary and a nec 19" el cheapo lcd to throw palettes and bridge on.

You can’t have the image and panels on one monitor?!!! I feel so stupid now. 🙂

You can definitely have the image and the panels on one monitor, but i you hve two monitors you can apparently move the panels to one and keep the image on the other. I thought there might be a way to treat one monitor as two since this monitor is so wide and since it takes up so much space on my desk. I’ve been working with it for the past couple of hours though, and even without treating it as two monitors, there is soooooo much more room that the panels are less in the way than they used to be. So maybe I’ll just leave it like this–or maybe I’ll think of a way to squeeze in the old monitor beside it.

you already HAVE another monintor?!! what are you waiting for!!! get a cheap card (25 bux should do it) if your current card doesn’t already support 2 monitors, and hook that puppy back up! you’ll never go back to a single monitor!!! promise! 🙂

if you do have to get a second card, the only thing i recommend is stick with the same brand as the main card. i.e. if you have nvidia, get nvidia, if you have ati, get ati, etc.

you’ll never go back to a single monitor!!!

Pairing monitors of varying type (CRT interlaced/LCD progressive) and pitch (pixel density) are two good reasons why one might go back to a single monitor. This is often the case with an old and new display. The disparity of displays can really mess with your head.

And if you live and think ‘green’ in terms of power saving, a single large display is usually better than two smaller displays.
