The CS4 extended installer is crashing (which means I can’t run CS4 at all, so I’m verging on demanding my money back for the upgrade)…

Running in Vista Ultimate, 64bit, 4 GB ram, nVidia 8800M GTX with 512 MB ram… around 15 GB free on my main drive, and well over 400 GB free on my second drive

This is in a fresh Vista install, after ensuring that all of my drivers are current, service pack 1 is installed, and going through adobe’s silliness of restarting in a simplified mode and also disabling user access control, and running install as an administrator… no dice.

I found one of the other similar threads, but found that I don’t have any user agent related registry entries to remove, so no dice there either.

Does anyone by any chance have any other ideas or recommendataions?

Thanks!

Mmh, at which point is it crashing? Could you provide an excerpt of the installer log (the last few lines)? It should be in Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Installers. Something like Photoshop CS4 12-12-2008.log.gz.

Thanks for the response!

I guess the uninstall process cleans those up, because it was running when I read your reply, and I couldn’t find any installer logs for Adobe.

I guess this is what happens when you try to parallelize things in the real world 😉

Anyway, an update — good news; after uninstalling followed by running the cs4cleanup utility, I switched to a "simplified" mode per Adobe’s tech docs, though unlike their recommendation I left the flex license services disabled as well as everything else, and ran the installer as administrator. This time it ran to completion, though I didn’t have time to launch PS4 before I had to head out to work.

Hopefully, when I get home tonight I’ll be able to actually run PS4… which will be nice, it will make working with 1+ GB images much more pleasant (I’m using the 64-bit version).

Thanks!

Erm, it’s CS4 or PS 11.0.

I mention this because people get confused with Elements which has lower numbers.

Oops — that was a bit of a typo, it was intended to be PSCS4. 🙂

No problem.

Have you seen the other threads on this.

For example turning off UAC; making sure other programs are not running (like anti-virus or hidden instances of Internet Explorer). Another possibility is to try in safe mode. Also bad installs can leave remnants which may need cleaning up with the Adobe clean script.
