Photoshop 5.5 will not install

HD suffered a glitch. replaced it with a new HD and reinstalled all programs from original CD and diskettes.
All programs installed well except Photoshop 5.5. When the CD is inserted the auto run screen comes on and when clicking in install Photoshop 5.5 the CD turns but does not install. It will install all other programs (Quicktime 3.0 , Post Script 5.1, Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0)on the CD. OS is Win XP Pro SP3. CPU AMD Athlone XP.
This old Photoshop 5.5 is enough for my needs. How can I get it to install. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Alfredo,

Try to copy the Photoshop folder to the HDD and then install from there.

Also temporarily disabling security software before installing PS may help.

I had the same problem with GoLive 6 after rebuilding my HDD about a year ago – it would not install due to an "Invalid Serial Number". Adobe tech support tried a second serial number to no avail, then gave up because they did not support that product anymore. I had to buy another package. They didn’t even offer me an upgrade price. I was very happy with GL6, and I’m still bitter about being forced to abandon it (at great cost).

Thanks for your help I did just that copied the Photoshop Folder and its contents to the hard disk and then opened the folder and launched the setup file and it worked.
However, before starting the installation it displayed an error window (17 times in sequence) telling me that an unistall file had been detected. Error 431. Just clicked the OK on each error window and they disappeared when the last one went away the installetion started and proceeded to install the program without any more problems.
Didn’t even have to disable the security software.
