I use an HP computer, 2.4 Mb RAM, Windows XP SP3.
I installed a trial version of CS4, but had to uninstall because of an error message when I opened an image. Since then I have downloaded the CS4 trial version twice, but can’t install anymore. It stops at 90% of system verification, after which nothing happens. I switched off the anti virus and firewall. I cleaned with CC cleaner and Registry mechanic. After the installation programme blocks I find CS4 in the list of installed appliances, even though it is not installed. I can’t get rid of it through the Windows uninstaller. I have to use Revo uininstaller.

Suggestions would be welcome

* eek* You created a mess and can only blame yourself, I’m afraid. Please only use the CS4 clean utility from the support pages to remove CS4 apps, not anything else. Your other tools will do more damage than good.

I agree those registry cleaning softwares often do more good than bad, but the problem started before I used them. I will try the CS4 clean utility.

Thanks Mylenium,

I followed your suggestion to use the CS4 clean utiity and could install CS4 afterwards.

However, I am back with the initial problem. The moment I open an image, the image appears, folowed by an error message, after which CS4 shuts down.

Any suggestion there?

Did you try and disable hardware acceleration? Most of these sudden conk outs have been attributed to the OpenGL buffers not functioning as required. You might try to adjust some of your graphics card settings, but depending on what model you have, it may not do anything.

Thanks,

I get an initial warning message saying there is a problem with GPU enhancement and my display driver and that I can enable GPU enhancement in Preferences. But when I open Preferences I get the same error message as when I open an image and the programme shuts down. In other word, no way tp test CS4. I hope Adobe will soon come with debeugged version or with clear explanations how to deal with these problems.
