Perhaps because using CS4 as trial (had difficult install, so not wanting to register until sure will work on this computer)?

Trying to make simple panoramic – 5 jpeg images – directly in PS (not from Bridge)

File>Automate>Photomerge

Select all the files.

PS-CS4 starts churning away, opens file named something like "unnamed panoramic1", informs me that is "aligning images based on content."

Things go well until it is apparently done, when the "unnamed panoramic1" file abruptly vanishes from the tabbed windows (yes, trying them). It cannot be found in "recent files", and cannot be found on the hard-drive where the images (all) were read from.

So … what has happened to the output pano file?

Why is there no prompt to save, and it simply vanishes after (presumably) the images have been merged?

XPP/3, Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, 5 TB HDs w 300 GB free on work drive. Small jpg images (3 MB ea), 200 GB free on PS Scratch Drive, 80 GB on Windoz Paging Drive.

ptGUI, APP, CS3 all have no difficulty merging these simple images – no do I think that CS4 does, it simply does not SAVE the RESULTS. Am I missing something obvious?

This is my first use of CS4, and am not impressed – as have already bought it am suffering from "buyers remorse", and wished that I had waited a few months … wasting time I could be being productive.

PhotoMerge appears to have been broken.

The above failure was not because of lack of ‘activation’, as I went ahead, entered my serial number and activated, with the same result.

Selecting only two, easily matched images, again the "untitled_Panorama1" one file vanished at the end of processing.

CS4 did not ship with the ‘manually align plugin’, so copied that from CS3, and again tried to merge the two-image pano. This time, an errmsg popped up saying that "CS4 was unable to automatically align ‘some’ images [um, there were only two, and was not that the point of MANUALLY align]", then displayed a completely transparent "untitled_Panorama1" image and LOCKED.

Random clicking on the interface produced a "This program has …" error (I saved the error dump, if anyone from Adobe is interested) and died.

To re-iterate, I have yet to be able to create the simplest two-image panorama with CS4 on two, quite different, XPP/3 systems. This with images that CS3 has no trouble with on these same systems(nor do other pano programs).

Something is clearly wrong here.

I was using this yesterday, it’s possible you don’t have enough ram. Or swap space.

On x64 I maxed out 8gb, and had a 20gb swap file at one point, but it did finish.

I’ll bet the ‘Interactive Layout’ option may be what you were looking for. Although it doesn’t seem to work overall as well as ‘Auto’ did. Unfortunately.
