I’ve recently installed the CS4 upgrade (64bit) on my new Vista machine and have come to start printing pages from a catalogue I produce when File>Print comes up with the message ‘to use this feature you need a printer installed (obviously). The bizarre thing is that I have installed one that every other App on my machine uses to print from – is this a common problem – I can’t find out much about this on the web – I was just wondering if there was a simple solution or whether I’m being completely dum about a simple setting? I’m just getting very frustrated now!

Cheers

Bizarre as it may seem, I had the same problem which I was able to pin down to the choice of the driver for the video card. have you changed drivers on account of CS4?

Hi,

No I didn’t as I thought that as the Open GL setting tick box was set after install I didn’t think I had to do anything. Do you let Adobe select the driver then?

Hi,

I have updated the video drivers and it’s made no difference. I need to get this item printed so I’ve had to move to an old machine with CS3 on and copy the files through to that in order to print – very very frustrating. It does need to get sorted though. If I had hair I’d be pulling it out by now!

Hi,

I’ve done this loads of times to no avail but finally….

This afternoon I was fiddling around and it struck me to try a completely new document. Low and behold I could get the print dialogue up for this new document. It came to pass that the documents that I had originally created for printing obviously had some kind of corruption in the cache. I’ve re built the documents from new (it’s not too bad as they are each made up from parts of about 3 other docs and everything is now printing fine, except of course the original set which have now been confined to the big recycle bin in the sky.

Thanks for your help.
