Hi,

I’m looking for a way to install and switch between 2 languages in Photoshop (English and French), I think it may be possible because of what I see here:

To see it go to Edit > Preferences > Interface.

Here is French Screenshot:

My problem is that no matter what I do (even by installing some English Photoshop over it) I only have French under "UI Language".

Please let me know how to do that.

Languages are tied to your serial number as of CS4. If you only have a french serial, you will not be able to choose any other language. At least that’s what I’ve been told from someone who really should know… so unless you have a valid serial for other languages, this will not work, I’m afraid. Maybe you should call support to verify.

I don’t know if this will provide that which you seek, but if you go into Adobe Bridge Preferences you will find the language UI’s there. Photoshop only uses the ones you select from Bridge preference listings.

Actually I was using Photoshop Extended as a Trial and I tried to install it twice, first in French, then in English without success.

The first reason why I’m looking for it is that I’m using English Photoshop Actions and it only works on English version because Layers are called "layer" but in French it’s called "calque" so when the action is looking for "layer 1" it it doesn’t find it as its created "calque 1" instead.

The only trick I found is to add an action to rename my layers as we can’t edit actions, an other missing feature 🙁

The other reason why I need it is that I’m following English and French tutorials to learn more about the software, that’s why I need to switch between both languages.

If anyone knows more about it it would be nice to keep me informed 😉

I’m not expert on the script files, but perhaps it’s a possibility to batch replace the lines in the action file so that it looks for calque instead of layer?

Didn’t try this myself, but perhaps it’s a possible solution? Sounds pretty expensive to buy a whole new license just because of this 🙂

I already thought about it Libigo, but the problem is that it’s impossible to edit .atn file (except with an hexadecimal editor maybe but it doesn’t seem easy).

I remember this working for After Effects, but I don’t know about Photoshop. For After Effects there were shortcuts in some folder to start them in different languages.

Sorry for late answer, the After Effects trick was to edit the shortcut and add -L EN
at the end, but even for After Effects it doens’t work anymore 🙁
