why can’t I contract from the edge of my document in CS4? this worked fine in CS3… I use this method a lot for making 1px borders

Select All
Select > Modify > Contract (1px) done…

but in CS4 if the selection is touching all 4 corners this option is disabled!?!? or any corner that it is touching won’t contract… help!

You can make an action that works just like modify/contract. Or just use a layer style stroke for one-pixel borders. Editable, etc. Much more flexible in the long run.

the answer you posted:
Select > All
Enter Quick Mask
Select > All
Edit > Stroke (inside)
Exit Quick Mask

Selection is now contracted

sounds like a very roundabout and inferior way to do this very simple function that has been in every previous version

the more I hear about CS4 the worse it sounds UGH
