When I select the Format in the Save As dialog, the available format appear twice. Is there a way to restore the list so each available format appears just once once?

did you install in the same folder as an older version? copy plugins from an old version to a new version? or point your "secondary plugin location" preference at an older version?

the solution for all three of those is "don’t do that!". for the 1st 2, you’ll probably need to uninstall and reinstall. if you just pointed at the other folder in preferences, remove that link in the preferences.

I have had PS CS4 installed in the standard location for some months, and PS CS3 has been removed also for some months. The "duplicates" only showed up yesterday.

* But* your mention of plugins reminds me that I *did* install the Airtight Flash galleries mentioned a few days ago by John Nack at

<http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2009/01/airtight_flash.html>

Just now I removed the Airtight Flash extension with the extension manager, but the duplicates are still there. If this might have caused the problem, if anyone knows how I may avoid the PSCS4 reinstall, I’d be grateful.

Anyhow, thanks very much for the memory jog.

hmm… odd. nothing with the secondary plugin location, eh?

have you tried resetting the preferences? (details are in the FAQ section of the forum).

you didn’t make actual duplicates of the plugins in the folder did you? like a slip when dragging and dropping in windows explorer? (just a wild guess!) 🙂

Dave = Wizard 😉

In each of

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-Ins
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe

almost every folder had a duplicate folder with "(2)" appended, from a Windows Restore done two months ago. Deleting all of these eliminated the "Save As …" format type duplicates.

I don’t know why the duplicate formats would have only just yesterday appeared but Dave’s suggestion lead to the fix.

Thanks very much.
