I’m using 6.0 on Windows 2000 and it doesn’t seem able to retain my preferences. It will for a week or so, but then I’ll open PS one day, and it will bring about a dialogue about color settings, and my palettes will have gone back to the default groupings and positions, and there will be no documents in the recent document list, and the open file window defaults to the Photoshop folder (not the last opened one), and my preferences will be back to the default. Does anyone know why this might be?

Andrew,

Wierd problem. Are you on a network?

Read the following KB article on Preference file locations:

<http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/6712.htm>

Make a copy of your preferences file and stick it in a safe place. When you have the error again, copy that back up to the correct location.

That doesn’t explain why you’re having the issue, but at least it’s a recovery strategy.
