Bought CS4 and can’t use it.

I’m running Vista Buisiness.
My laptop won’t up-date to SP1.(error #80246007)
Tried several times.
I have plenty of hard-drive space.
Went thru Troubleshooting and everything is in order.
I bought this laptop used and got no restore disk.

I know this isn’t a MS Forum but I thought somebody might have had the same problem. Or maybe direct me to…..

Thanks,
Riley

THX!
I submitted a ticket to MS.
When I hear from them I will let you know.
I will check here too, in case somebody has a solution.
Best Regards,
Riley

The prime target newsgroup would be microsoft.public.windowsupdate. Also, there is a knowledge base article about this error. You can find the article by searching the internet for error 80245007.

Two suggestions have been posted:

1) Re-enable the BITS transfer service if it’s disabled.

2) Delete all the files and folders under: C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Then re-run Windows Update.

What are the results from doing each of these?

Hi,
I did #1 before posting, but not #2.
I’ll do that now and let you know tomorrow.
I’m on dial-up and it takes a while to download SP1.
I appreciate your help!

Since you are on a slow dialup, a suggestion would be to download the standalone version of the service pack so you don’t have to keep re-downloading it each time something doesn’t work.

There is a link in the non-subscribers section at the left of this page: <http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bb898842.aspx>

Another suggestion would be to find a computer that is on a faster connection, maybe at a library or internet-cafe or friend, and download the standalone version of the update’s EXE to a USB drive if that computer allows inserting such a device, then run it from that on your own computer…or burn a CD of it. It’s 454MB.

Looks like you can also order a DVD.

Hi,
Sorry for the delay,

Still unable to install CS4. (did the deletes and install). I Finally heard from Microsoft and they are sending SP1 on a Disk (free).
At present I am reformatting my computer to "factory original".

My other computer already had SP1 and CS4 installed perfectly.

This problem computer is a March-2008 HP Laptop. Must have just missed the SP1 update. So I’ll just wait for the disk. (544.3MB)
I’ll let you know the result.

P.S. He said to disable all Blockers and Anti Virus programs before running update.

Have a Fine Day,
Riley
