Very Annoying Problem:

A4 300ppi image.
Select zoom tool.
Click Fit screen
Click Fill screen

CS4 or is it NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT
card with 181.22 (latest driver) can’t interpolate
correctly, resulting in blured image on screen.

Using the zoom tool however does not seem to
have this problem.

Doesn’t happen with Disabled OpenGL Drawing (naturally)

Anybody else seeing this?

Thanks
Peter

I’ve noticed this. When OpenGL is enabled I’ve noticed that sometimes the image looks slightly out of focus. On CS3 it looks sharp.

Thought it time to give this enquiry another lease of life. It’s really annoying having to work on an unsharp image. Any answers yet?
Is it a bug?
Is there some box I haven’t ticked or should tick?
I’ve searched FAQ’s with no luck.

I prefer not to turn off Open GL as I like the other features.

Here’s hoping there is a fix

Thanks

86 and David,

Are you aware of this little gem from none other than Chris Cox, Adobe Photoshop Engineer: see his post #11 here:

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b85078>

Yes, it seems that Adobe now draws a distinction between "smooth but blurry" images and "sharp" images. Aint that just dandy!

People were clamouring to change the situation where images were not smoothly rendered at most zoom ratios other than 100%.

Now you’ve got it you don’t like it. 8o

JJ,

"People were clamouring" – I was not one of them. In any event, I think you have it wrong. What I wanted, without ever asking for it, and I think what most other people wanted, was for Ps to render images "sharply" (not "smoothly") at zoom ratios other than 12.5, 25, 50, 100 and multiples of 100%. What could possibly be useful about a smooth but blurry image?!

Yes, BUT (and it’s a big but(no pun)):

It should be possible to render an image at odd pixel ratios and still keep it sharp. After all, Photoshop does it when resampling.

However, that ball is probably outside Adobe’s court. It seems to me the problem is how OpenGL is implemented by the GPU manufacturers, or maybe it’s inherent in the OGL spec.

Anyway, the golden rule still applies: for critical work, view at 100% or other even ratios.

There have been some newer drivers released in the meantime, try using those, install the .1 update for Photoshop if you haven’t already and lastly, if the new driver doesn’t do the trick, try using some older drivers as new drivers sometimes bring new problems, especially when we’re talking about cards from 2006/2007 like yours

I found out that I have the blurryness problem with a 3333x3333pixel image, but not with an image that is 3000x3000pixels. It really depends on image size.

I notice the same blurriness in Bridge when pressing Spacebar to view the image full-screen. I also tried dragging Bridge to fill two monitors and the same blurriness is there.
