I have CS3, which runs fairly well on my older computer. Only have problems when I have too little free space on my hard drive. When that’s the case sometimes PS adjustments,e.g. "liquify" will revert back to the original image. Given the CS3 runs OK will CS4 do as well or are the demands on the computer much greater?

My video card is an Nvidia Geforce MX 420-updated. The system is a 2.4 Pentium 4, the hard drive is 55 gb’s.

Thanks for your input.

I do not believe your graphics card supports the minimum OpenGL requirements; a Pentium 4 is now a lower end processor; and 55 Gb drive is a tad on the (very) small capacity scale.

Conclusion: you likely aint gonna be happy with CS4. (Or more accurately I would not be happy running CS4 on your rig.)

Not in a million years. Stick with CS3 until you can afford a "decent" computer. While you could live without hardware acceleration, the processor is by no means fast enough to compensate for the loss of performance. And seriously: harddrives are cheap as hell. Even if you stick with CS3, you should buy another disk to plug into your system, given that you are already impaired in doing your work properly…

Agreed on both Wolf and Myl. And I’m a bit surprised CS3 works well on that system. P4 is the new Celeron and the HT’s only slightly better with this stuff.

Am I to understand you’re using only one hard drive? Myl’s right; HD’s are cheap so get at least one more for file storage and/or scratch disc.

CS4 will whine for more power if you put it on that system. Stick with CS3 for now but if you know you’re going to get a newer computer soon and if you have a suite, go ahead and order CS4 before the end of the month before the reduced pricing goes away. Don’t know if that’s affected if it’s just the one app.

Thanks guys for your responses. Looks like I’ll have plenty of time to get more knowledgable on CS3, before eventually getting a new computer.
