I work a bit on my laptop (vista premium, 4gb ram) and especially with large files the ram soon get maxed out and the scratch disk is used a lot (haven’t run out, have about 150-170gb free).

I was wondering if putting the scratch onto a (partitioned – 1st for scratch) portable esata hdd would help?

Have a link but don’t want to look as though i’m advertising.

Has anyone had any first-hand experience?

Thanks for any replies.

No first-hand experience with eSata on a laptop.

But I do have a laptop with two internal drives, one of which I’m using for scratch, and I’m amazed at what it can handle without complaining.

Even with 32-bit Vista and 4GB, it regularly handles several 12-25 megapixel image files with lots of adjustment layers, layer masks, alpha channels, the works – and throw in Bridge, ACR, ID, Firefox on top.

It’s almost as snappy as my 64-bit desktop, and I’m convinced the second drive is the key.
