I was watching a J. Kost flash turorial and she selected the option to change the size of layer thumbnails and the options showed samples next to the size selection circles. When I went to change the size of my layer thumbnails all I saw were selection circles and no size sample pictures next to them. Is that a PC vs Mac thing or is something missing from my version of CS4? I believe I saw thumbnail sample sizes in CS3.

Yes. All I see are the circles to check. There are no sample thumbnails visible. Since I know which circles go with the thumbnail sizes I can check the correct one but where did the sample images go?

That happened to me about three years ago. They never came back.

You shouldn’t have pissed them off.

It makes me wonder what else is missing that I haven’t found yet. Maybe I got a special upgrade version.

Don,

Do you have Imagenomic’s Portraiture? If yes, than that’s the culprit. You probably also miss the icons in de Arrange Documents pulldown.

Imagenomics says it’s working on it. In the meantime they gave me the tip to go to File > Automate and open the Imagenomic Plug-in Console and close it again.

This will get you back these icons. this only sticks within a Photoshop session.

Rob,

I don’t have that software, but I tried it and the entire top half of the ARRANGE DOCUMENTS pull-down is blank. I went to CS4 this morning and the sample thumbs were back. I logged off and went back a few minutes later and they were gone again! I have a jpeg of the screen but don’t know how to paste it on this forum, but you know what I’m talking about.

I did a search here and others have implied that NIK plug-ins are the problem, and I have NIK Silver Effects Pro.

Rob,
To clarify. When I said "I tried it" I didn’t try Imagenomic’s Portraiture. I meant that I checked ARRANGE DOCUMENTS and the top half of the pull-sown was blank.

Don,

I understand about the "trying".

Try to temporarily disable the NIK plug-in, for instance by unchecking the path to external plug-ins in Preferences.

Otherwise, the problem might not be important enough to disable a plug-in that, apart from this bug, works OK.

Rob,
That didn’t make a difference, but it’s not that big of a problem for now.

Hi Don,

You are hitting a known Win only issue with certain types of plug-ins. We are working with 3rd party plug-in developers to try and resolve the non-displaying icons.

The workaround at present is to select Help> About Plug-in> NIK (3rd party vendor plug-in). [If you have multiple plug-ins installed you may have to go thru all of them]. Just bringing the About box and dismissing it clears things up for the session. Unfortunately, it only works for that session and must be repeated for each launch of Ps.

regards,
steve
