With what options did you save them? And PS6 on Vista? doesn’t sound right to begin with. There have been a number of issues with the PNG format in its early days. What’s most likely happening is that the old (incorrect) PNG loader in PS6 does not work with the correctly saved newer versions of PNGs, e.g. from Quicktime or newer versions of Adobe products…

Photoshop 6 or Elements 6?
Bob
I just installed PhotoShop 6.0 on from an old disk (licensed) onto my laptop Toshiba PC running Windows Vista. I have had no problems so far except for this .png issue. I basically just wanted a high-resolution image with a transparent background. I suppose I could try to save them again as uncompressed .psd images on my MAC and try opening them again on the laptop…but I hate having to do weird things like that. png should work!
PS 6 is very old. I’m not sure what kind of PNG support it had but the fact that you even got it to install on Vista is surprising.
That it would work 100% properly would be a shock.

Bob: I guess it’s not working perfectly. When I’m in a layered image the layer I’m on is automatically selected without me selecting it in the layers pallet. It’s annoying!
Did PS 6 have an autoselect for the move tool?

Did PS 6 have an autoselect for the move tool?
I believe it did. Should be updated to 6.0.1 immediately.
Can I update the thing? Its so old. OK…I’ll try. WOW…that autoselect sounds like a lame function! I guess it can’t be switched off? I feel bad because this isn’t what my original question was about. I guess I’ve gotten sidetracked.
"WOW…that autoselect sounds like a lame function!"
I use it every day.
Q
And it can be switched off. Look at the Options Bar.
Did PS 6 have an options bar? 🙂

OK…thanks. I updated to 6.0.1 and turned off "Auto Select Layer." I also imported my files as .psd images so I guess I can work with them like that. Hmm…maybe 6.0.1 will open those .png files? I’ll check but for now it seems like everything is pretty OK. Thanks all for your help!
