Hi,
I am new to CS4. I have CS4 Extended. I also have Photoshop Elements 6, which has a choice of a drop shadow Matt and a frame gallery with many examples to choose from. See Matt and Frame examples from Elements 6 applied to photos here:

However, I cannot find any Mattes and Frames in CS4. Where are they located? Are they included CS4 at all?

Please advise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Den

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the heads up.

Try this link:

The first 14 images have the matts and frames I used from PS Elements 6.

Other than a very few, I would say the frames detract from the art within, because the frame has more texture and depth than the art.

Compositionally, areas of high contrast or fine texture or large shadows draw attention to themselves. This art is relatively flat and the frames seem more the subject than the art.

I realize this is likely because the frames are canned from PSE and you may not have much choice other than the colors.

Your initial post doesn’t really ask a question, but I assume you are asking how to create similar frame effects within Photoshop as you can from Elements. Photoshop doesn’t come with as many high-level things built-in from Adobe, but there are a wealth of plug-ins that extend Photoshop’s capabilities, www.autofx.com is a place to look, or better yet, is to teach yourself how to accomplish things, by looking for tutorials or reading books.

What an arrogant, insulting post. First of all, Steve, I wasn’t looking for a photo critique of my work. My question was quite clear. If CS4 had a selection of Matts and Frames as PSE-6 does. Nothing more. I surmise from your response that the answer is no.

Further, I have read CS4 books AND tutorials and found no reference for what I was looking for. That’s why I came here. That’s what these forums are for. How dare you assume that I did not. At my age and after what I have experienced in my life to have someone like you tell me I need "to teach yourself how to accomplish things" is beyond the pale.

Den,

Anybody that seriously plays with, and thinks about the subject could have posted what Steve posted.

There is no real way for a forum contributor to know anything about the skill levels of a topic writer, particularly when he/she submits URL’s that are empty pages.

Further, his post looks helpful to me, rather than arrogant.

When we communicate through forums we sometimes need some elephant skin. But in this thread I see no reason to even think of putting that on.

So, calm down, rethink and let’s get on with the matte and frames. The rare cases I need them I simply build them in PS, but that may not be what you want.

So any body else?

Rob,
You’re right. I over reacted, and I apologies to Steve. I was having a bad day (serious Tinnitus). I was on edge and wrongly concluded critical condescension in his post. I was wrong, and again I apologize to Steve and everyone here for my ignorance and rudeness.

There are some frames installed with CS4 in the Actions panel.

You have to load them from the little drop-down menu in the corner of the panel.
