Scanning from within CS4

I want to scan from within CS4 x64, like we used to in the old days! I appreciate that TWAIN is making way for WIA, however, I can’t find a way to scan from within photoshop and NOT have to immediately save the scanned image. In want to just scan and open, and then make the decision to save (or not) later on.
Can anyone please advise? (I have a Canoscan 4400F)

I think you’d have to ask (canon?) to update their drivers to do what you want. sounds like a scanner driver issue rather than photoshop.
