I am new to PS4 having only used PS3 for a short time. I have two problems with layers:
1. is that the layers palette disappears and has to be reopened every time I click on a photo;
2. in CS3 it was possible to open several photos, set one as the background and then click and drag the others onto the background. In CS4 I can’t achieve this.

You fix both of those in Preferences > interface > panels and documents.

Uncheck "auto-collapse iconic panels" and "open ducuments as tabs".

You need to watch the terminology! What you correctly called CS4 in the message is not the same as PS4.

It would take too long to explain all the interface changes, which we were assured were going to be a big improvement but aren’t. 🙁

I suggest you look at the introductory videos on the Community Help web page that comes up when you press F1. The normal Help is a link on the top right of that page.

The UI changes are a big improvement. For me! I so like the tab interface and can easily change to floating windows (classic mode) if required.

Sue: in tab mode, you copy one image to the other by holding Ctrl (to bring up the Move tool), drag the image to another tab title, then when the tab opens, move the mouse to the image background and release. Easier done then said.
