With the Zoom tool active there is a button "Fit to Screen", is that what you are looking for?

curt young first of all thank you for your reply.let me explain.lets say that i open a blank window.then i open an image and i copy it in my blank window.lets say that the image that i imported is smaller or larger than the blank window.so i must grab the black arrow then one of the corners of my picture and then resize it so that it can fits to the canvas.i dont want to use actions if i have a lot of pictures to scale.so i ask…is there a key shortcut that does this action?(automatically resize the picture so that it can fit to canvas?not zoom it).plz replay to my mail a lot

Andreas answers are given here in the forum so that all may benefit from the knowledge.

As far as your question is concerned I don’t know a command in Photoshop that does that. The blank canvas would always have to have the same aspect ratio as the picture pasted in, or it would distort the image.

Maybe there is a script that could do it.

There is a method to do this but it’s very messy and not very practical: Make a new document, double click the background layer and click ok to turn it into a regular layer. Go to Image->Variables->Define, select Pixel Replacement and change the Method to Conform. In the uppermost list change from Define to Data Sets(or press Ctrl+2), click on the floopy disk icon to create a new Data Set, click on Select File and chose the file you want to open then click ok to close the Data Set dialog box. Go to Image->Apply Data Set and click on Apply.

There you have it, a method to import an image into a document and make sure that it’s the same size as the canvas(I did say it’s not practical :P)
