Hi,
I’m using google sketchup 7 pro to make a 3d .dae object(a simple shape, no color , or material ) when I import it to the mesh folder in presets in cs4, it goes . but when I go to cs4 n try and open it from,,,new shape from layer,, get no image, altho I seem to be able to move it around in 3d tools, in history I see a layer for the move, cam any one explain how to get the image to show . am new to both programs. google sketchup 7 pro, and cs4 extended, i have xp, and the 3d objects that came with cs4 work fine
any help will be appreciated
thank you

Hi,

Do you get the same thing opening the file directly or just when using it as a preset?

Hi,
Can you post the model so I can take a look at it? One thing to check is the Opacity setting in the Material tab of the 3D panel. It may be opening at 0%.

hi. and thank you again
ok took me a while but i finally(searched on google) found the materials panel.changed the opacity to 100%. it worked once for me, i saw the shape, but the opacity keeps reverting back to 0%, how do i set it to stay? at 100%
i love this cs4, i’m amazed at what a person can do.
thanks again

hi steve,
ok i got it working now every time , i just change it each time to 100% , click on the document and it appears.so i’m good with that. thank you
now it does take the picture on the shape, however it does not come out the way cs4 shapes do , cs4 wraps around the shape nicely and from playing around a bit i can get the focal point of picture in the spot on the shape where i want it.but from sketchup the picture is all over the place, like in many pieces not sure if there is anything i can do to correct that.any thoughts on this problem ?
if you explain how to post a model i will so you can have a look. thank you again for your help much appreciate it
i’m always curious about nick names, you might be as well, blunos (bluenose2) a schooner from canada some interesting facts can be found on line thank you again

hi again steve,
well i got it working a lot better now, the rest of settings will have to be done before i import it to cs4. want to thank you again for your help, don’t think i would have ever found the materials panel if you had not said to go there. thanks again and keep up the GREAT work

Hi BluNos :-),

I think you’re hitting an import limitation stemming from a format specification change. I’m looking for Adobe documentation on the subject.

After you import the DAE and then set the material Opacity to 100%, go to 3D> Export 3D Layer… Save this out as a DAE. Now see if this imports with Opacity at 100%.

For the texture wrapping (picture on shape), this is controlled by the UV mapping and setup is very dependent on the shape of the model and what you want to accomplish. The canned presets have been mapped using a 3D modeler. For some more background on Ps usage try this link:

Thanks for the schooner info. Now I know the name of the ship on the Canadian dime.

Hi BluNos,

Below is a link speaking to the opacity problem and a script that you find useful.

<http://www.adobe.com/go/kb409030>

As for more presets, we don’t have anymore to download unfortunately. You can use 3D> Export 3D Layer… Save this out as a DAE and place the output in to your Preset> Meshes folder as you discovered. Only DAE files will show up in the ‘New Shape From Layer’ menu. Unfortunately, Ps CS4 doesn’t have a robust UV map editor. You may want to ask over at SketchUp about UV editing; maybe they have a plug-in to help out.

cheers,
steve
