I was wondering if it’s possible to move brushes and other setups I’ve done in CS3 to CS4 once I upgrade. I’ve tried several ways of searching to see if this has been asked before but I didn’t find anything.

Yes, you can copy the files to and from their respective folders. Brushes, for example, in a default Windows installation of CS3 are in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Brushes. Just copy the brushes you want over to the CS4 brushes folder.
save them all out first in cs3. save brush sets and action sets etc. from each palette’s flyout menu. save them to a common location. in cs4, go to the palettes’ flyout menus and use load brushes or load action set… i don’t think a straight copy like irc suggests is a good idea, in case there are issues. i’m not aware of any, but i’d rather be safe than sorry… (copying from one cs4 or cs3 installation to another of the same version though, is a perfectly acceptable way to move around customizations.)
So this is getting frustrating. I reply to the post but I don’t see anything added. So let’s try this for a third and final time before I throw in the towel.
Dave: I went into CS3 to unload my Actions and my Brushes but ran into some difficulties finding the method to do it. I did see in the Action palette where I could Save and Load but when I tried to Save I got an Invalid Filename message. I never did find the brush palette (I’m fairly new to PS and I’m still learning where everything is). I usualy hit "B" and use the tools bar for my brushes. How do you get to the Brush palette disply.

with many of the stuff, lets stick with actions as an example, you need to create a set first. a new action set, a new brush set, etc. so you click the new action set icon at the bottom of the palette then (while not in button mode) drag you actions into this new set. then when you’ve got em all organized, click the flyout menu, select save action set, browse to your desktop or c:\ or some other place you can remember and type in something like dennisActions…
Thanks Dave. Everything worked fine. It was odd that I had to build a new set in order to move the actions but to move the brushes I was just able to select them and save them. That’s OK though, I got what I needed in the end. Thanks for your help
