Natasha: Update the video drivers. Does this happen at all resolutions? Does this happen at all zoom levels? Does it dissappear when you minimize then maximize? Does this happen when you open other images?

Do you happen to have a guide turned on?

John,
I’m having a similar problem. Sorry to ask what may be a basic question, but what is a "guide" and where do I find out if it’s on or how to turn it off?
TIA

Then you have to disable OpenGL by going to Edit->Preferences->Performance and disable the "Enable OpenGL Drawing" checkbox

Zeno, that solved the problem. Thank you very much.
