Help! Sometimes when I open a layer style dialogue box, suddenly my browser takes over and opens one or two or even three windows/tabs with Photoshop.com. If I try to go back to Photoshop, or right click and minimize it, three more tabs open with Photoshop.com. Why is this happening???!?!

(Last night after a long time trying to resolve it, even by going to task manager and minimizing, I found that by holding in ALT and clicking on Photoshop, I was able to go back into it without launching a barrage of internet tabs, as ALT seemed to change the layer style dialoge options some. However, now that I know how to resolve it temporarily, I still don’t know WHY this is happening. Any clues?)

It may be corrupt preferences.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.

This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

Thanks for the tip. The wierd thing is that this only happens once in a while. It’s not like every time I open a layer styles dialoge it happens, only once in a while. And it seems to happen when I open the color picker withing the layer styles to select the color for an effect. Again, not every time, but just every so often this occurs.

Still sound like a corrupt preference file?

I also get that from time to time, haven’t figured out yet what’s causing it but it happens too seldom for me to care enough to search for an answer 😛
