….it has now developed an annoying quirk. No matter what tool I choose the cursor becomes the hand tool. The only cure seems to be a reboot. Then it’ll work okay for 20 minutes and then it reverts to the hand again.

I don’t think I inadvertently did anything to cause this but maybe I did. What’s the cure?

You may have to reset your preferences when booting up PS

Check adobe knowledge base on the correct procedure.

Same issue in 64bit CS4 Photoshop for me. Reset did not work for me ( ctrl alt shift together clicked immediately after clicking to open photoshop ) but another post suggesting hitting the spacebar . That works every time so far. Have no clue what causes the issue, and odd the reset doesn’t solve it, but it doesn’t for me. I think it must be a shortcut glitch of some sort…
Hope it’s as easy as the spacebar solution if the reset isn’t the key for you.
