I have Photoshop 7 (Windows XP) and I’ve been having some problems:

1) I can’t save gif, png, bmp files but I can open them.
2) When I click on Save to Web in the file menu…the save to web
screen doesn’t open.
3) Some of my other plug-ins won’t work and their screens won’t open either.
4) When I try to jump to ImageReady…it says that it "could not fully start the application because there’s not enough memory available". Yet I can start Illustrator right after.

That’s all that I’ve noticed so far. Photoshop was working perfectly fine before but now all of a sudden they don’t. I’ve tried deleting the prefs file and reinstalling but it still hasn’t fixed any of those problems.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this??

Thanks in advance,
Kei

What software have you installed recently?

It sounds like you recently installed an older version of Clean Sweep Deluxe, or some other software incompatible with Photoshop.

I didn’t install any new software around the time Photoshop stopped working correctly and I don’t have Clean Sweep Deluxe either. Is there somewhere where I can find out what other software is incompatible with Photoshop?

Did you install any software or operating system updates?

I didn’t install any software but I’ve been installing the operating system updates. I don’t recall installing any of those just before I noticed the problem with photoshop…but maybe I did. Is there any particular os updates that aren’t compatible with photoshop?

Sometimes OS updates can conflict with software. There’s one on the update site at the moment, last time I checked anyway, which corrects a problem caused by a previous update (not specifically PS).

What you should do is look at what you’ve installed and then, by date, remove an update and see if it makes a difference. Do this for any recent (say in the previous week) updates. If they’re not the problem you can always re apply the update. It’s certainly worth a try.

The thing is that each system is different. And the updates may interact with software in different ways. You can even get interactions where an update will affect one piece of software/driver which then affects another.

Well I tried removing some of the updates that were installed around the time that Photoshop stopped working…but it didn’t make a difference. Thanks though.

OK. Stupid question but are you using Save or Save AS?

I can’t save gifs, bmps, pngs with either Save or Save As. The only formats I can save are jpgs, and psds (probably a couple others but I don’t use other formats). The Save For Web option doesn’t work period.

What shows up in the dropdown box when you try and save?
