Just did a clean install with CS4 master. Retail copy.
this is the 1st time using photoshop since moving up to 4 from 2.

I scanned a form as .tif
when I open there is the form perfect but I can’t add a layer becuase it is in indexed mode.
change to RGB and all of a sudden I have a 75% grey over layer. I copy background layer to create new layer….same thing. I bump up the exposure and it goes back to regular black text on white paper look.
But when I hit OK….it fills with 75% grey again.

If I hit layer>layer masks>show all….I get a mask linked to my form. Form is black mask is white and they are linked. If I unlink and change exposure….same thing happens. I can see the form correctly until I hit ok….and then…back to 75% grey.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? is this a defualt setting or new feature set I am not aware of becuase I skipped a version?

thanks

Very mysterious, and having a "75% gray over layer" kick in whenever you click OK does not sound like a feature that I’m familiar with.

Have you seen this happen for other images, or is it just this one image? Can you upload the tif file so we can have a look?

I’d swear I gave this one a response, but here goes again.

You are probably seeing a side effect of Photshop’s preview mode, which can fail for images that contain dithered or other fine patterns of black and white. Zoom the image to 100 percent to avoid this problem. —
