Hi,
I’ve ordered Photoshop CS5 Extended and have received a few quotes for a new computer..my old P4 is terminally ill. One quote has the Nvidia GTX 260 Asus and the other the GTS 240 Asus. As I need to make sure the card supports Open GL2.1 or greater and Shader Model 3 I’m confused as to which one to choose. The GTX260 is more expensive but seems to support Open GL2.1…the GTS240 supports Open GL3. I’ve looked at various Nvidia sites/specs but am confused about shader model requirements. I will be using the 3D capabilities of CS5. Are these cards suitable? Is one much better than the other? Is there a better card? many thanks for your help.

Thanks John, but it wasn’t too helpful. I’ll be using Windows 7 64 bit. There wasn’t info as to what specific cards support open GL and shader
3.0…the links didn’t give me the info I need.

I missed the Windows 7 part. Sorry, Paul. I will need that same information real soon. 🙁

I believe the 3.0 Pixel shader spec has been around since about 2003. Ergo any modern video card supports it. I believe even the otherwise execrable video systems in Macs also support it, although even the new ones use obsolete, notebook quality video systems by Windows standards and Mac drivers are not as sophisticated as Windows drivers (they don’t have to be because there are no high end 3d games on the Mac comparable to Windows). Open GL is kind of universal for the level of graphics cards you describe.
