MSVCRT10.dll Error

I recently upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98, now everytime I run Photoshop it gives me a MSVCRT10.dll error.

"The procedure entry point cess could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCRT10.dll"

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Photoshop 7.0, but it still will not work. Please help.

Jaina: Did you install XP overtop of 98 or did you do a clean install? Before doing a clean install (which will solve the problem) have you made sure that you have installed the most recent service pack, this may solve the problem.

I installed XP over 98 (I’m not sure I like it much, so it’s easier to get rid of this way). Is there anyway to fix this without doing a clean install?

Uninstall Photoshop, then do all the Windows Updates, the reinstall Photoshop after you are finished. If that doesn’t solve the problem you have to do a clean install, besides, in the long-run, you will be happy you spent the time to do it.

Despite what Microsoft may say, operating systems should ALWAYS be installed ‘clean’. Not doing so is a recipe for disaster. It can bite you many months down the track even if it appears OK at first….

I got it fixed, thanks for your help!

I didn’t have to install a fresh copy this time, but I do plan to do this later on in the week. I’ve never had any actua problems with installing over later versions, but I understand that this could pose a problem later. Thank you for your advice.

The more complex the O/S’s get the, the more necessary clean installs seem to become….Good luck with your clean install

XP tends to inherit problems from previous os’s. it’s always better to do a fresh install.
