I cannot use ‘Canvas Size’ in my AP CS anymore. Everything becomes greyed out and locked (except for tasks in the column ‘Window’) and I have to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to close the program.

Can I simply refresh AP with the original CD or do I have to uninstall everything first?

Kind regards
Ole B.

Hmmm.. I have to confress that I have never used the "Canvas Size" command, and didn’t know its existing until reading your message. So I have no experience to be any help on this.

About installing, if you think the "Canvas Size" command is the root of problem then it may be safe to uninstall first then reinstall from fresh. Or you may just try to reinstall over the existing one, many programs may have option to repair the damage of existing (they pretty much reinstall but keeping the setting), and some just reinstall the whole thing with out removing the registry etc… Heck, many uninstall program including Windows’ uninstall program may not be able to remove all registry info.

So the answer is

NO, you don’t have to in general.

YES, in some case you may have to.

Nope! that’s my PISSING. Now, you you know the meaning of "Image Size COMMAND" vs SIZE of IMAGE?

Someone with a brain who’s IQ is larger than his shoe size? No, you don’t want to fight with someone like that. You should start smaller. Try arguing with moss or a mushroom. Once you’ve won a few of those then try some higher life forms.

Thanks to Joel for his fast answer. I had the same vague notions about reinstalling from fresh/reinstalling over the existing program, which was my reason for asking here, Sorry, Joel, your answer didn’t make me any wiser.

Thanks to John Stafford for the otherwise very usable link to ‘How to delete/reset Photoshop preferences’. Sadly enough it contains no solution to my problem with ‘Image – Canvas Size’, maybe because it’s about a command, not a tool. I know removing the Preference File doesn’t work for me, because I tried it out last Friday before annoying this group with my question.

So unless somebody comes up with another suggestion, I’ll just try to see if I can install over the existing program.
I will let you know the outcome.

Kind regards
Ole B.

You should have known that Adobe or any all software companies can’t have all solutions for all problems, so they pretty much use the very general information for almost all issues.

The RESET usually reset some setting which may cause some problem, but if some file get damaged or something is more than resetting then you may not only have to reinstall, but in some case you may even have to find some util to remove all registries.

And as I have mentioned that installing over the existing one might and might not work.

Reinstalling from fresh has more chance, but there may be a small chance that it may not work because of something in registry, or your Photoshop conflicts with some programs installed in your system.

In general, some anti-virus program can cause problem, and years ago Norton was a well known program causing problem to many programs, and Photoshop was one of them. Later and current, some version of ZoneAlarm may cause problem to some program (especially losing internet connection).

And I don’t think this will make you any wiser either, but that’s life.

Removing all registry entries for Photoshop won’t always do the trick. Adobe has a ‘clean’ utility to remove or fix the data it writes to a normally inaccessible disc sector.

Google adobe photoshop clean script

Ole B.

And here is the outcome::

Installing over the existing program did not remove the error.

Removing the old AP CS (keeping only activation details) did the trick.

I planned to make a list of the files to see if I could spot the faulty one(s) by comparing details with the new installation, but Karen’s Directory Printer told me AP CS maps alone
would result in 83 pages to print, so I resisted the temptation. —
Thanks to all and kind regards
Ole B.
