Hello,

Just wondered if many of you use the "Navigator Tool"? Would you miss it if it were to be taken away. Just interested in some opinions.
A bit of topic maybe, but if anyone has some opinions, fire away.

Kind regards.

Not so often, but it helps when the images are big, and when I want to check details at 100 or 200% (sharpen for example), I would remove other things before (like the animation stuffs, or 3D, but it’s just because I have no use of them).
I think there is space for everyone in PS, and it’s all right as is…

An image can be opened in more than one window with varying magnifications. Use Menu Window -> New Window.

Although it really helps to have a very large screen, or more than one screen.

I have never used it to know what I am missing. Or I may use something related to it but don’t realize it.

There really isn’t a Navigator "tool". Not like the Brush tool or the Clone tool. The Navigator enlarges or reduces the size of the image on the screen by means of a slider. It’s in the panel with Adjustments and Masks and is accessible via tab. A red square is placed in the Navigator window, and this can be moved so a particular area can be seen larger.

There’s also a Zoom function, but that’s not really a tool either. The letter Z allows you to click to enlarge the view. There are also keyboard shorts to enlarge and reduce.

The image size does not change in any of these, but the view of the image does.

OK, I just Googled and now I know what Navigator is. And I may tried this once or twice many many and many years ago, but never use the option to remember it.

I use the Navigator window because I want to zoom in on an area when I’m working with a layer mask. I’m left-handed, and use the tablet pen with my left hand and keep my right hand on my track-ball to move the red square around the screen and increase or decrease the amount of zoom.

Using the shortcut keys in this situation means moving one of my hands to the keyboard. Usually, that means my left hand so I’d have to put down the tablet pen. I can key in a shortcut with my right hand, but it feels awkward.

I am using Tablet & Pen so I always have 2 hands available to mess with the keyboard. I works mostly on closeup of potrtrait so I usually have the photo zoomed around 200-300+% most of the time, and using SPACEBAR for hand-grab command + pen to move around.

The tablet has several buttons but I never use any of them to know much about th?m Or I just use whatever I have been using for nearly 2 decades
