I have a licensed copy of P7… I see now that the new version requires this activation crap. Does that mean I will not be able to install the new version at home AND at work, or is Adobe expecting me to buy TWO copies?

No you can do two installs total.

Additional installs will require that you contact Adobe and obtain authorization before installing.

Not perfect by any means, but probably less inconvenient than people’s worst fears.

I believe…not sure, but that the copy you and I bought will probably allow maybe up to three installs….I will install on my home
machine tonight to make sure….did you get a manual? Did you buy the suite or just PS?

I have not purchased the upgrade yet, I was going to order online next week but I will just be getting the PS/IR stand-alone upgrade. I already have Acrobat 6 and don’t need the other programs. Three installs would be absolutely perfect – home, work and a laptop.

Adobe allows installation on a desktop and a notebook, which I did with the activation process going through in each case without a hitch. I don’t know if the activation site and/or PS8 can tell if the computers meet the requirement, and what would happen if you tried to do the same thing on two desktops. I.e., can this process look at the hardware of each computer and discern the legality in each case?

As strange as it may seem, Adobe pleasantly answers questions about the activation process. From their representative, the owner is permitted to install on two systems (home/office, desk/laptop, ??/??). I contacted them before upgrading and they were very helpful.

That doesn’t surprise me. After all, they want to *encourage* you to install it and get as many as people as possible to do so.

They told me that it could be activated on two systems, but the two had to be desktop/notebook, not another combo. I.e., you can’t install on two desktops. So how does PSCS and/or their activation site know the difference? Can it suck hardware info out of each machine, crunch the info, and make a decision? I have a third machine here, a desktop, that I’m tempted to try activation on just for kicks to see what happens. This would be a test, as I don’t need PS installed on it.

Adobe allows Photoshop to be installed on *any* two systems. Can be two desktops or a desktop and laptop or two laptops. The only restriction in their EULA is that both copies cannot be used simultaneously.

Cheers…
