Drawing a circle

I know that this may sound quite simple but how can I draw a circle with a bar through it, like those used for traffic signs?

I want a circle about 5cm in diameter which is about 3 mm in thickness. I need the bar to be the same thickness. The circle itself will be red with a white center.

I just don’t seem to be able to draw a circle which has a circle which has a ‘thickness’ to it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steven

Use the custom shape tool. Click on it, then look in the options bar up top – there’s a drop down for the shape you want. One of the sets that ships with PS has it in it already (symbols?).

You can create a layer shape or a path – either way, it’s a vector object and resizable.

I could not figure out how to change the thickness of outline of circle or rectangles.
Please enlighten me. Thanks. Satoshi

You’ve got to stroke the path. Use the brush tool, select whatever size, shape, spacing, etc. you want then stroke the path. Use the ‘stroke path’ button at the bottom of the paths pallette. Well documented in the manual(s) and help.

I can follow your suggestion, but when I’ve supposedly created a circular path, it doesn’t seem to behave like a selection. The EDIT>STROKE command is greyed out.

My suggestion to Steven would be to use the ellpitical marquee tool (with the shift key) to draw a circular selection of the desired size. Then use the EDIT>STROKE command to create the basic red circle, with the desired thickness. Set the desired color to RED, and the width to the amount of pixels wanted.

The red bar through the circle could be done lots of ways – but the simplest would seem to be the marquee tool again. Draw a rectangle the of size of the bar, fill it with red, and use "Transform" (CTRL+T) to rotate the bar. then use the move tool to position it on top of the red circle.

I just checked this all out, and it works like a charm.
