Can I take a look at the values of pixels along a line?

Hi, all

Nowadays I try to view the values of pixels along a line. I hope that I can select a vertical line or horizonal line interactively and the values of pixels along the line can be viewed on the right side.
Is it possible using CS5? Thanks.

It is difficult to understand exactly what you want, but I’ll give it a try.

You can use the marque selection tool to selecta single-pixel row vertically or horizontally. (hold down the mouse on the marque tool).

Then you can open the Window – Measurement Log, and press the Record Measurements in the log window. It will give you grey value statistics (minimum, maximum, median, mean) average pixel values and histogram.

(Open the Histogram window, too)

If you want the Histogram to show only that single line of pixels, then after you select the row, copy it to a new layer, or better – to another single row canvas.

Is that what you mean?

The information you provide is helpful to me, but
is not the same thing I am trying to get.
The operation I desire should be called profile.
For example, there is a horizontal line from a image
24 56 34 56 76 21 33 56
I hope if I draw a line from the third pixel to the seventh pixel.
The values of the line can be plotted, so I can
see how the values vary along the line.

I’ve often wanted this to help construct a gradient. Is that what you’re doing? 😉

I try to use it to see how the values vary
along the line. I think it will help me to
analyze images. I am not familiar with Photoshop and
am learning it right now.
May it can help construct a gradient and will
try it later.
