I am using PS 5.0 and need to save into a JPEG. The problem is that when I do, the effects on my text layers are lost – drop shadowing, bevel/embossing…What am I doing wrong? It seems that in order to save to JPEG, it is madatory to flatten the image which seems to be the issue…any help would be appreciated…up against a deadline! Thanks.

I can’t say I know what you’re doing wrong, but try this:

Choose Image > Duplicate, and place a check mark in "Duplicate Merged Layers Only…" The resulting image should consist of everything you had showing merged into one layer with all effects "rendered." Save As… .jpg

Thanks, but I got the same result. The beveling is lost on the text in the duplicate after the layers are flattened…It seesm to be the flattening that is the issue. I have text on one layer, and a rectangle as a background layer for the text. The text is in a lighter colored font. The settings for the beveling are: Highlight: Normal with 75% Opacity, Shadow: Multiply (black) with 75% Opacity, and Outer Bevel w/Angle of 120, Depth of 15 and Blur of 50, Global Angle is on….

Brian,

What is the problem with flattening the image? Just save your master PSD, flatten , save as a JPG and you should be good to go. Photoshop 5.0 just predates the save copy as feature.

If it is causing you that much trouble you could always upgrade to a newer version.

The problem is in that we loose the effects when we flat the images 🙁 I have any problem (PS7, WinXP SP1) when I save image as jpg or tiff or some other format. No format conflicts there!
Just the effects that we created such us emboss or bevel suddenly disappeared in other file formats except in psd 🙁
