Don’t concern yourself with ppi – it has no bearing on your web display, and is only for print.
One method is to use File|automate|Fit Image… so that you can define your dimensions without changing aspect ratio or having to manually crop any images to fit the 6 x 8 aspect ratio.

PPI still has no bearing. Pixels are your only unit of measure. You don’t need the Per Inch included since it is not relevant for web graphics.
Gplracer could save a 300×400 pixel image @ 72 PPI or 300 PPI and it will always take up 300 Pixels By 400 Pixels on the web page (unless you force it to another size in the image tag).
