I’ve got a strange request, I’de like to create a map that has colored zones. the colors are linked to data in a spreadsheet, so depending on the number in the spreadsheet, the color changes. I’de like to do many zones in this one map. is this even possible? if so can someone post some tips on how this is done? thanks for any help you can give.

NOT IN PHOTOSHOP, it’s just for producing images

You could build it in flash or some serverside language like asp but I doubt there is any easy ‘of the shelf’ solution.

Actually, there are but as you said, they have nothing to do with Photoshop.

If you have Illustrator (I use CS), you can use any of the Graph Tool options and import tab delimeted files or copy/paste straight from excel into the Data Window.

Import is the first button on the top bar.
To copy/paste have the first upper left most cell selected

hope that helps

I’d think it would be easier to do the work in Excel, possibly using the charting capabilities. More than likely, though, you’re looking for a third-party software tool for what you’re asking for.

This is more of an html issue.

Create a table to hold the cells. Then use a server side script to draw the cells based on the value read from the database.

There are a number of resource for this info. Here’s an example that may or may not provide a clue:

He could start with Illustrator to create the base and then use Flash to create the interactivity.

True, there are many options to toy with.

Illustrators Graph Tool has a Data Sheet viewer built right in, generating the graph on the fly as per data, also allows for import of tab delimited or excel files in a single click.

just a thought
