Liked the format of win XP, especially with Outlook express It is a full OS with its own programs. ie photoshop, security, viewers Here is how it works. give it a try, it’s free

Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC,
available on Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate, allow you to run multiple Windows environments,
such as Windows XP Mode, from your Windows 7 desktop.
Supported host operating systems. Windows 7 Home Basic
..Windows 7 Home Premium
..Windows 7 Enterprise
..Windows 7 Professional
..Windows 7 Ultimate
..Windows 7 Home Premium (SP1)
..Windows 7 Enterprise (SP1)
..Windows 7 Professional (SP1)
..Windows 7 Ultimate (SP1)
The process of creating virtual machines
1.From the start menu, open the Windows Virtual PC folder and select Virtual Machines.
2.From the Virtual Machines folder, click on Create virtual machine.
3.On the first page of the Create a virtual machine wizard you can specify
the Name and Location for the virtual machine.
4.Next you can configure the amount of Memory for the virtual machine, and whether Networking will be enabled or not.
5.Finally you can choose to create a new virtual hard disk or to use an existing one.

WTF do you want? Fawning adoration? Not going to happen. Anyone who takes computer software and/or hardware advice from an idiot like you deserves the smoking ruins of the computer they’ll destroy. Go back to safety scissors and construction paper. It’s more your speed.

I don’t think anybody particularly cares.
For example, thankfully I have no use for a Windows machine of any vintage since I retired.

Hi,
This is not a friendly place where people can freely exchange and share ideas – as we have seen.

I have Win 7 Ultimate and thought the XP feature would really be of use for some old programs that I consider vital.
The result was that the XP mode was super slow and a real pain to use (for me) – these same ‘old’ programs ran like scared rabbits in the default win 7 mode.
I now subscribe to the philosophy that if something does not run right out of the box – just dump it and look for an alternative. (Kindle for PC is an example of that)

I for one appreciate your post.

I bought a hard drive to load Linux and ran it a few days It looks similar to win7
but some favorite programs would not work. must be drivers were incompatible even photoshop did not work. so back to win7
Am also retired, about 20 yrs now. OMG getting old

keep in touch,

My home computers have always been Apple since 1983 and my purchase of an Apple IIe. My primary machine is an Intel iMac running a 3.6 Ghz Core i5 with 8 GB RAM.

….then I have a 17" Macbook Pro, a 17" G4 Powerbook Pro, a "gooseneck" G3 iMac, and three others relegated to my Mac graveyard.

At this stage I have no desire to explore Windows or Linux.

when i installed the xp mode, I kept the programs to a minimum Outlook express, anti-virus, thumbnail viewer, and photoshop thats all. I use outlook express for newsgroups and e-mail, and google internet
then use photoshop for editing my photos….clean and simple with this only, The computer runs fast, no slowdowns
you may have crammed too many programs onto it
don’t know tho
