I photographed a wedding (nephew), they are very happy but want six pictures on one large photo. I have been trying layers for each picture but sizing each one in a pain, especially if they decide to go for a larger (than I created print). Could just get blown up I guess but it think the quality would get degraded.
Any tips on creating one canvas with six pictures and masks? to blend the pictures together.

Thanks

I’m not sure what you mean – but it sounds simple.

1. Figure out the size you want each image, open a new document set to the final combined size (largest possible), and use the ruler guides to create the grid (press shift when dragging the ruler guides for precision). Save as "collageNephew".

2. Place one image in the collageNephew document within one of the ruler guides. Drag a marquee to snap to one of the rulerguide-gridbox above that photo and add mask. Repeat for the rest.

3. Save document. It should be huge. Save it again as "smallCollageNephew". Now you have two of the same documents. Resize the smallCollageNephew to the size you are showing your client, and flatten.

You have lots of choices; here are two

Assumptions:
Largest print size of collage is known.
File Name = Collage
6 Source pix = pix1, pix2, pix3, etc.
Create new file at 300 dpi sized for largest collage print. Making this max size eliminates enlargement issues
Open all source pix
Drag and drop image layer from each source pix to Collage Close all source pix
In Collage, arrange and resize images/layers as appropriate

1. Classic Photo Mat – Picture mat with cut-outs for the pix Create new layer, Name = Mat
This will be the ‘picture mat’
Arrange so Mat layer is on top
For the moment paint Mat layer white
Turn off Mat layer
On pix1 layer, use Magic Wand to select transparent, non-image area. Select/Inverse
This selects the picture area
Activate Mat Layer
With selection active, Hit Delete key
This cuts the hole in the mat for the picture.
Repeat selection and delete with pix2, pix3, etc.
At this point, you can texture/emboss/add text/color the Mat layer

2. Plaque – Collage on a background
Create new layer, Name = Btm
This will be the ‘Collage Background’
Arrange so Btm layer is on the bottom
For the moment paint Btm layer white
On pix1 layer, use Magic Wand to select transparent, non-image area. Select/Inverse
This selects the picture area
Select/Modify/Border
This is the transition area from pix to background
You will have to work out the best size…
Filter/ ????
This is the transition effect from pix to background
You will have to work out the best type and size…
Start with Gaussian Blur to see the effect.
If you have too much time, save the selection as a layer Then you can easily try different filters on the layer.
Repeat selection and filter with pix2, pix3, etc.
At this point, you can texture/emboss/add text/color the Btm layer

Hope this helps,

Mr3
