Background appears when I convert a image with no background in psd to jpeg.

Hi..
I am trying to create icons from the image that I found. And it had background in white.. So I used the magic tool and took the image alone and pasted it to new file. And saved it as psd. But when I convert it to jpg format, the background comes back.What should I do to get the image alone with out the background?

Save as PNG might fit your needs.
