Rotating image 90 degrees – how to keep the proportions the same

I’m using the Rotate Image command and the image is getting long and skinny. All I want to do is work on it right side up, rather than sideways. I thought I did this before and it didn’t change the proportions, but I can’t get it to simply rotate the pic.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to as the Rotate Image command, but what you want is Rotate Canvas.

Yes, rotate canvas is what I meant. When I rotate my canvas 90 degress, it squishes my picture and messes up the proporations.

If you go to Image>Image Size dialog, before and after you rotate, the dimensions should be the same. Your screen viewing magnification might change a bit but you can return it to whatever magnification is needed. I haven’t known PS to squish an image unless I specify a transform type function.

Rotating 90 degrees just rotates 90 degrees.

If the image appears to be "squishing", then something is very wrong with your monitor.

I think I am missing something here 🙁 but what is wrong with Image>Rotate Canvas>90 degrees CW or Image>Rotate Canvas>90 degrees CCW.

I have never experienced image squishing when I use this.

Make sure that the aspect ratio of your Windows desktop is a 4:3 ratio ( 1024×768, etc ) . Some video drivers give choices that will behave this way !

how about the rulers? do they measure the same in the X and Y on screen?
