Are there ways to evaluate if a film scanner is properly focused during a scan?

If you can place the film at an angle to the plane of the sensor so that some spots are closer and others farther you may be able to see where along the scan it’s the sharpest. Using an image with an overall pattern would make this easier. This may be harder to do with a dedicated film scanner, but is quite easy with a flat bed.

You’re more likely to get technical answers about scanners in comp.periphs.scanners.
